Draft2Digital and Google Play
Fellow self-publishers! Draft2Digital is now offering distribution to the Google Play store.
For the last couple of years it’s been hard to get into the GP store. I got into it back in early 2014 when it was more open, but Google stopped accepting new publishers due to problems with scammers. For a while now, it’s only been possible to get into the GP store with a few third-party distributors, but I think Draft2Digital is the easiest to use of all the third-party distributors.
Google Play is my second-strongest market after Amazon. In January 14.7% of my book sales came from GP, so if you’re a self-publisher I think it’s worthwhile to try the GP store.

See, I struggle in wanting to sign up with Google Play because even with as much money as you can make, they have the power to change your price setting without notifying you. That can wreak havoc on your plans, promotions, and even sales of your other books. I am curious how many times it’s happened to you though because of your library and visibility in the market.
It hasn’t been a problem. My fallback plan has always been that if GP changes the price on a book at an inconvenient time, I’ll just de-list it from GP.
Though in fairness this is less of a problem for me. I just passed my 94th book, and if GP wants to lower the price of a book from, say, 2013, it’s not the end of the world.
Hmm. . . .
