what will CLOAK OF DRAGONS be about?

Grace asks:

“Speaking of Cloak of Dragons, any clues as to what it’s about?”

That’s a good time to ask, because I just finished Chapter 2 of 20 of CLOAK OF DRAGONS. After I finish editing SEVENFOLD SWORD: GUARDIAN, it will be full speed ahead on CLOAK OF DRAGONS. If all goes well, Nadia’s next adventure will be out towards the end of April.

Here’s the official book description for CLOAK OF DRAGONS!

My name is Nadia, and I’m an errand girl.

Except my boss is the High Queen of the Elves.

And my errands for her involve spying on people. Or stealing things. Or hunting down monsters. Or, on occasion, killing people.

But this time she wants me to solve a murder.

And unless I find the killer, I’m going to be his next target…because dragons never forgive a murder.

Nothing ruins a party like your boss telling you to off someone… I’m not sure where I read that, but that’s what your description says to me.

Hey I wondered about this the last time I played Skyrim. Have you considered giving Nadia a fear/rally/charm type spell? When combined with a Mask, I could think of some cool uses for one.

I have to admit I never really used illusion spells in Skyrim – my Skyrim characters just tend to wear a lot of armor and kill everyone.

    • My skyrim character summoned demons to kill everyone and then took all their stuff

        Also a viable strategy!

No lie after you came out with Mage Fall I created a character I named Nadia who used illusion and destruction magics. I’d sneak into a room invisible, drop a dual flame rune on the floor and laugh as people melted. Ahhh Skyrim. So much fun. ALSO if you mod you should check out Appocalyse’s More Magic mod on nexus. Because it will give you some crazy ideas.

Nice. I have to admit a large part of the inspiration for CLOAK GAMES came from playing the Thieves’ Guild plotline in Oblivion.

Do give Nadia some more spells! Also, please let her have a ‘normal’ learning process this time around! Not another terrible mind-dump followed by an eternity crucible!

Let her go through the learning struggles that other standard mages go through, especially if she is learning something that she is *not* naturally talented at. She has both time and her freedom now, is financially independent, so she can focus on learning broadening her knowledge of magic before the next major crisis.

Maybe enchantment, better warding, improved healing or something else. Or you could develop her abilities with illusion further I guess – like simulacrums. Hasn’t the Queen given her grimoires or spell-books ? Nadia is the caricature of the glass cannon offensive mage and badly needs to improve her defensive/support skills more. I am aware that she has a basic opposition-based elemental ward and a coma-inducing self-heal, but the latter is ridiculously dangerous – she needs to find alternatives with more control and more flexibility.

Nadia’s got a lot of raw power, but not much finesse. Yet.

  • Hey just wanted to say I loved your cloak games series. Especially sky hammer and mage fall as well as the cloak and ghost series. This is one of the few series that started great and got even better. I loved your idea to use the eternity crucible. It was really cool how you made nadia a powerhouse but it came with a price. Not just her mental state but the other side effects from that horrific experience. It was a good way to keep her from being overpowered. Also will the events of the cloak and ghost series come up in feature books about nadia. And can’t wait until cloak of dragons comes out.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the books. A few of the events in CLOAK & GHOST will be referenced in CLOAK OF DRAGONS. I’m on Chapter 6 of 20 of CLOAK OF DRAGONS, so it shouldn’t be too much longer.

      • I do have one more questiion. Could nadia learn spells on her own without being taught them. Like could she learn how to use a healing spell that was more mild then the one she has now.

Yes. Unfortunately for Nadia, spell books/scrolls aren’t generally the sort of thing that people leave lying around.

          • I meant just her trying to figure them out on her own without any of those things. Also will we see her learn more spells
