running

Today I ran 4.25 miles, which brings me up to a total of 38.25 miles for the month of January 2020.

This is better than January of 2019, where I ran only 31.95 miles. Of course, both are lower than my best month of 2019, where I ran 94.95 miles in June. For some baffling reason, it’s easier to run in June than in January. πŸ™‚

I like running, but it’s kind of a time sink. You can get a good strength workout in about half the time of a good solid run.

Of course, that’s the same problem with everything. The attached screenshot to this post is from MASTER OF ORION, where you can see my space navy launching to defend one of my colonies from Antaran invaders. Alas, I lost the battle and all my ships were destroyed, but I mauled the Antaran force badly enough that they didn’t have enough firepower left to destroy the colony, and my empire’s industrial base will replace the lost ships soon enough.

It was a fun battle to play through – but it used up all of the fifteen minutes I had allocated for a gaming break that day. The same problem with running!

In a perfect universe, in any given day I would have infinite time to write, infinite time to exercise, and infinite time to play games. Sadly, in this universe, there are only 24 hours in any given day, and they must be allocated wisely.

On that note, back to editing DRAGONTIARNA: WRAITHS! πŸ™‚

This post threw up an old blog post about “Nightfighter” from 19 March 2011 where you mention that you had written sixteen novels at that point, but only had two published. All those sixteen novels have been published since then, right?

Most of them. I never tried to publish (trad or indie) the very first novel I ever wrote, and a couple of others.

I suppose it makes sense to hold a couple of novels back in case something comes up and you have to move up a planned release. And all the greats had unfinished material lying around for their estate to publish post-humously, like Howard, Lovecraft and Tolkien, but I’m not sure I’ll be around to read it, or in any shape to read even if I’m still alive, especially since you’re so dead set on living healthy.

A good run makes you feel great, in a way that weight training doesn’t. Alas, I can no longer run. A blood clot deep in my calf (inoperable, according to my doc) reduces blood flow enough that my foot goes to sleep if I run more than a minute or so. A fast walk has my toes tingling, so that’s what I do. Need to set up a walking (or bicycling) desk, but haven’t managed that yet.

      Sorry about your foot!

For me, I feel terrible after a weight session, but then I feel really good the next day. Unless I screwed up something in the forms, and then I feel terrible in a new way. πŸ™‚
