WRAITHSHARD / CLOAK OF ASHES update

Upon reflection, I think I was too grim about WRAITHSHARD. I received several well-reasoned emails from people pointing out (sometimes quoting my own words at me) that it was too soon to properly evaluate the book or the series. That is very true.

So, after some reflection and a 5.5 mile run, I think I’m going to continue WRAITHSHARD, but I do want to finish CLOAK OF ASHES first. I’m at 31,000 words of CLOAK OF ASHES, and 30,000 words into WRAITHSHARD: SIEGE & STORM.

If all goes well, CLOAK OF ASHES will come out in April on all ebook stores, and WRAITHSHARD: SIEGE & STORM will come out in May on Kindle Unlimited.

I do thank you all for your patience while I worked out my thoughts.

More from both Nadia & Mazael soon!

  • Well,
I guess I should have read this post before I made the post this one is in response to!

Not knowing the content of the complaints about Wraithshard, I’d just like to point out that it’s in Kindle Unlimited, yet is a clear sequel, bringing back former antagonists and other non-main characters in ways tightly linked to events in previous books, and refers to a number of previous events. So people who don’t use KU could be upset about new Mazael being in KU, whereas the KU people who are new to Mazael could be upset about it being a sequel series with a lot of ties to previous books.

For a dedicated KU series, it might be better if it were a new universe/setting. That way, the dedicated KU people don’t have previous books that aren’t in KU, and the non KU people don’t have the continuation of a series they’ve already read in a system and platform that they don’t use.

    • I second this. A new series in KU is what some authors do and it works out well.

I would go for it and see if that works. If not, maybe also getting a designer for the cover would help. It doesn’t need to be an expensive illustration, more like some photo manipulation, but it sometimes does help considering the money dumped on covers by other authors in KU. I would say test out a new series with your own covers and if it still flops, pay for a slight upgrade and see where that goes.

But yeah, Kytheros is probably right.

  • I’m really excited for Wraithshard. I was really excited to see that Mazael had returned in it, as well as Lucan. I fell in love with the Demonsouled world when I read it. Please continue Wraithshard. I do have a question regarding the Demonsouled world, however. In the last book of the Demonsouled series, a San-keth priest hinted at the possibility of the San-keth rising. Will that thread ever be continued? If not, that’s okay. I am more excited about Wraithshard than a potential San-keth story.

I enjoy Jonathan Moeller’s stories, and it blows my mind how many words he can write at a time. Thank you for creating wonderful stories!
