The anthrophages were human-shaped, but gaunt and wiry, their skins a mottled gray color. Bloated corpses could sometimes turn that color. Black claws jutted from their fingers and toes, and a row of black spikes jutted from their spines. Their eyes were a venomous yellow color, like sulfur, and the creatures had no noses, only triangular black pits.
One of the creatures was right next to me. I could smell its rotting carrion stink, could see the jagged fangs as its mouth opened wide to bite out my throat.
I cast a spell, sheathing my hand in an invisible gauntlet of telekinetic force, and I punched the anthrophage in its ugly face. I had put a lot of power in the spell, and the impact basically ripped off the top half of the anthrophage’s skull, leaving its jaw attached to its neck. Black slime spurted from the wound, and the anthrophage’s body staggered past me to collapse against the ground.
With a snarl of fury, I stalked towards the charging anthrophage mob…
