GHOSTS audiobooks coming to Kobo, Google Play, and libraries
Some interesting news in the world of audiobooks this week – it seems that ACX is revising its exclusivity requirements for audiobooks. Key quote from the announcement:
“We are also making other changes to our ACX policies to provide more flexibility, which we know is important to you. Effective February 1, ACX Rights Holders of DIY or Pay-for-Production titles that have been on sale for 90 or more days can convert their distribution type from exclusive to non-exclusive.”
What that means is that previously ACX required exclusive audiobooks to remain exclusive with them for 7 years, which meant they only showed up on Audible, iTunes, and Amazon. That made sense in the last decade, but there’s a much bigger audio ecosystem than there was even two years ago, and ACX was having Big Problems throughout 2020.
So, starting on February 1, if all goes well I will begin taking the GHOSTS audiobooks wide, which means if you listen on Kobo, Google Play, Chirp, Scribd, certain public library services, and a bunch of other sites, the GHOSTS audiobooks will appear there before much longer. Watch this space for news!
