Two master thieves. One dangerous prize.
Caina has the ancient Sword of the Iron King, one of the five relics that could return the necromancer-king to torment mankind once more.
But Caina knows where the Iron King’s Dagger is hidden, and if she and Countess Kalthane can steal the weapon from its malevolent keepers, two of the five relics will be unable to harm anyone.
There’s just one problem.
The Dagger is hidden in the grim halls of the Iron King’s castle.
And sinister guardians lurk in the castle’s shadows…

PLOT ERROR
“Anyone who steps into that corridor will go totally insane, and no ward or sorcerous defense can turn aside the effect.”
“Unless one is a valikarion,”
“Anyone who enters the Hall of Gates is driven irrevocably insane, with no arcane defense possible. Only the valikarion are immune to the effect, as far as I know, and those a valikarion guides through the Hall.”
This is SO NOT true since Talmania has sorcerous defences to enter the Cataphract’s tower when she pleases. It should be changed to “you need excellent sorcerous defense against insanity OR a valikarion”.
What Justin said. In Ghost in the Tower our heroes discovered the insanity causing hallway and then went around it. They didn’t need to pass through the hallway to reach the library at all, neither did Talmania.
Think about it, if they had to use that hallway then BOTH Decious Aberon and (evil, crazy scarab chick?) I’m drawing a blank on her name, would have needed to bypass the ward on The Hall of Gates and they were mediocre mages in the grand scheme of things.
The Hall of Gates is just one small section of the Cataphract’s Tower. Talmania did not come through the Hall of Gates. She used SigilSoara to connect directly to the Tower’s library. Our heroes also entered the Tower from the physical entrance in Artifel, thus not coming through the Hall of Gates (Ghost in the Tower). They left through the Hall of Gates to Malarae in order to avoid physically travelling between Artifel and Malarae (Ghost in the Council).
