Question of the Week: Rereading Novels

It’s time for Question of the Week, designed to inspire interesting discussions of enjoyable topics.

This week’s question: do you reread novels you have previously read?

There are often numerous reasons to reread nonfiction – research, for example, or double-checking on how to do a certain technical procedure.

For myself, I don’t usually reread novels. That said, this year I had a hard time finding something new to read, so I reread a bunch of novels from the 2000s and early 2010s that I remember I liked, but could recall little else about. I have to admit it was enjoyable to come back to something I had previously liked with 20-ish years of additional experience – I could appreciate nuances and allusions in a way that I couldn’t before.

Yes. A lot. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve re-read The Lord Of The Rings

    Sure I reread novels!
When you anounced Ghost Armor, I reread Ghost Exile and Ghost Night. Some things were different from my memory 🙂
In the moment, while I wait for “The Ladies” I reread Treasure Island.

I re-read books pretty often. I just got my brother into your books, starting with Frostborn, so we’ve been reading them at the same time and having daily calls to talk about the exploits of Ridmark and his friends.

  • When I was little, reading books other than those assigned by schools was an alien thing where I live, because books were expensive and people considered fiction time waste. My parents are more liberal, so I requested them to get me the Harry Potter series. I never knew another book for years, rereading Harry Potter twice a year. It was my escape, a little dose of magic and friendship in my lonely, backward-society life.

I’ve read HP like twelve times by now, and rarely ever reread books except for occasionally going back to favourite scenes. It’s been a while since I’ve read HP, so maybe I will reread it someday. It was what got me into reading and still has a special place in my heart.

I had to re-buy more than one Discworld book that had fallen apart from multiple reads, I may have to reread so e of them again.
My copy of Darkmoon by David Gemmell is very fragile from how much it has been read.

As for your books I have gone back to reread a few series like Demon souled and cloak games, I will probably reread Ridmark’s adventures soon.

I find that I reread books if I am reading a series that I especially like and want to refresh my memory while waiting for the next book in the series. Occasionally I’ll do other books that I haven’t read in a long time. Books are pricey when you read as much as I do.
