GHOST IN THE TOMBS brief preview

Let’s close out the week with a short preview of GHOST IN THE TOMBS:

“I have an idea,” said Caina. “Well, two, actually. One that might work, and then another if the first one fails.”

“What’s that, then?” said Mardun.

Caina told them as quickly as she could.

They stared at her.

“That,” said Tyndarion, “is absolutely insane.”

“It’s only insane if we lose,” said Caina. She dismissed her valikon and summoned her Veilplate’s helmet. “Ready?”

This was really good book. Caina finally did some real damage to the serpent folk – in the last 2 books, everyone was on the back-foot and only reacting to incursions. I am just surprised that the Emperors did not show more initiative and give her an army to wield after the incidents in the first two books – feudal head of states don’t take kindly to multiple assassination attempts.

*small* story contradiction error. Mardun was said to have already seen serpent priests many times, yet initially he asks Caina about whether the statues represent serpent men.

“Are those accurate representations of the serpent men, cousin?” said Mardun.
    “Yes”
“Pity.” Mardun’s fingers rubbed against his staff. “I had hoped they were stylized. Or abstract.

    LATER

“You’ve seen the serpent men?” said Tyndarion, surprised. “A few times, yes,” said Mardun. “I’ve spied on Cairnhold when Hjalfar and his men have been in port.”. “Ugly damned things, let me tell you. “
