Competitions between thieves always end in betrayal.
Rivah Half-Elven has risen high in the Court of the Masked King, the thieves’ guild of the imperial city of Tar-Carmatheion.
When a powerful wizard demands that the Court obtain a magical relic for him, Rivah and her crew are the obvious choice.
But the wizard wants the thieves of the Court to compete for the honor of stealing the relic.
Unless Rivah uses all her courage and cunning, she won’t be the last one standing.

Read this a little late and enjoyed it. However, sadly, there is a major unsolvable plot point. Rivah knows that her opponent in a competition is trailing her and she was already warned – twice – that they are likely doing so magically, then it makes no sense to take steps to ward herself. She has the money to pay a wizard to ward herself against divination. Yet she does not do so – which make no sense.
Ugg..typo.
” then it makes no sense to take steps to ward herself.”
-> It made no sense for her NOT to take steps to ward herself.
Found this very painful to read since she could have easily won this competition by performing basic, simple, elementary due diligence. And she could have also obtained the Ring of Water instead of letting her enemy possess it.
