Question of the Week: Comics
It’s time for Question of the Week, which is intended to inspire interesting discussions of enjoyable topics!
This week’s question: do you read comic books/graphic novels? Marvel, DC, indie, manga, whatever. No wrong answers, obviously, including “I don’t read comics.”
That’s a good thing, because for myself the answer is “I don’t read comics.” It’s not out of snobbery or disdain for the art form – it just doesn’t speak to me or hold my interest. Not all art speaks to all people at all times.
But given how often I see people discussing comic books, I’m clearly in the minority. 🙂

So, not related to question of the week at all, sorry. I have been rereading the cloak mage books, and at the beginning of cloak of titans it’s talking about how much both fort casey and gate city have grown, but I had a thought, Nadia is the marshal of the great gate, controlling both sides of the gate, and borders often have security running both ways. Why don’t we ever hear about what is happening on the kalvarion side of the gate? The growth and such there must also be huge, and wouldn’t raiders try to raid on that side as well?
Ps I don’t read comic books as well, they just don’t appeal to me, I prefer world building through writing as apposed to images, and I think you don’t get the same feel for characters in a comic as you do in a novel.
The series isn’t over yet, and we might get to the Kalvarion side in future books. But for most of the Shadowlands raiders, it’s a lot easier to get to Earth via the Shadowlands than it is Kalvarion.
Once upon a time, I did read comics. It’s been a long time since any of the mainstream comics interested me, sadly. I have read some manga in the last year or so, but any associated light novel wins handily. There are a few webcomics that I keep up with. I have bought books and merch from the Foglios for Girl Genius and Tayler for Schlock Mercenary, but even there it’s been years since my last purchase.
I grew up reading comics. By the time I left high school it was books only. When Ereaders came out I jumped to that. Then at some point I included audiobooks. I haven’t bought a paperback in some time.
I’m South Asian, and we don’t really have comics where I live. The closest I’ve got to reading something like that is with monthly kids magazines, which include comic strips. I really wish i grew up with Marvel comics, though, because I’m a huge Marvel and MCU fan!
