RIDMARK ARBAN is the Gray Knight, exiled and outcast, seeking to stop the return of the dreaded Frostborn. At last he has come to the perilous ruins of Khald Azalar, where the answer to his quest awaits.
Assuming the master of Khald Azalar does not kill him first.
MORIGNA was the Witch of the Hills. Now the dark magic within Morigna threatens to devour her. Unless Morigna can tame the power, it will transform her into everything she has always hated.
MARA’s father was a dark elven noble of terrible power. She escaped his grim realm, but now she must confront him once more, or join countless generations of his slaves in death.
CALLIANDE has sought for answers since the day of the great omen heralding the return of the Frostborn. Her answers await in the darkness of Khald Azalar.
But the truth might be more than she can bear…
bought, read and finished – even before this post came out :). Thanks for writing an entertaining story. I wished Calliande’s reveal of her memory had a bit more pizzaz though. There didn’t seem to be that big a reason why she excised her complete memory. It seems the Shadowbearer already knew everything about her anyways – she needn’t have expurged her complete memory just the location of her staff. Unless, there are things in her memory that have not yet revealed in the story?
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it. The main reason for removing her memory was to prevent anyone else from awakening her early and finding the location of the Staff. Calliande was afraid that the Enlightened would subvert future Keepers, and she thought the best way to prevent that was to hide the Staff and hibernate until the time of the conjunction. It didn’t quite go according to plan. 🙂
Bought, read and finished already:)
I liked Calliande fighting without her companions’ support. Everyone, including her is so used to Ridmark coming up with plans and tactics that Calliande outsmarting her enemy on her own was quite a significant achievement.
Something I would like to see is more insight on the Swordbearers, especially Gavin. He has come such a long way from the village youth discovering his father’s betrayal to a wielding a legendary sword against monsters.
Are there plans beyond the next book to continue with the series? I am very curious about how Andar is going to rescue his son and of course, the political side of the Kingdom of Men.
Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you liked the book.
I’m planning for a grand total of 15 FROSTBORN books, so there is still a bit more to come.
The companions have really become a strong part of the series. Mara in particular carried away large parts of books 5, 6 and 8. We’ll definitely see more from Gavin and Arandar in the future.
Also, that’s a good point about the Kingdom of Andomhaim – Ridmark is fighting to defend it, but in the entire series, he’s only briefly visited the outer edges in books 1, 4, and 5. So we may have to come back to it later. 🙂
I just wanted to say what an AWESOME series you have created! I read through all 8 books over the course of a week and can’t wait for the next one to come out. Luckily, I discovered the short stories, so those will have to tide me over until you release your next book.
One thing that bothers me is the extreme anger that Imaria feels for Ridmark. It is suggested that her hostility was there before he and Aelia married, even though the sisters’ relationship was already strained. Is it a jealousy thing?
Also, do you have plans to release another omnibus?
Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you liked the FROSTBORN books. If all goes well, I should start writing FROSTBORN: THE WORLD GATE before the end of July.
Concerning Imaria, she was always a bit jealous of Aelia as the older sister, even though they were close. She thought Ridmark was beneath Aelia, and was angry when they married, and then absolutely furious when Aelia was killed, coming to blame both Ridmark and her father for Aelia’s death. After Imaria met Tarrabus and joined the Enlightened of Incariel, the shadow of Incariel fell over her mind, and inflamed her hatred and jealousy into something toxic.
