The King’s Speech
Saw it tonight.
I suppose now that I teach history, I’m professionally obligated to point out that as a historical piece, it compresses several events for the sake of narrative continuity, and that it skims over or ignore other important events entirely.
So don’t consider it as a historical biopic. It’s a good movie about one man’s battle with his personal demons, and how he manages to face that demon with the help of a friend. Two are better than one, we are told, for if one falls down, one can help the other up. You’d think that a man sitting before a microphone, reading off a prepared speech, wouldn’t be a moment of high drama, but it is.
Recommended.
