FROSTBORN spiders versus DEMONSOULED spiders versus GHOST EXILE spiders

Reader Kenneth noted that both the FROSTBORN books and the DEMONSOULED books have spider monsters, the urdmordar of FROSTBORN and the soliphages of DEMONSOULED.

This is true. I do like the idea of spider-monsters, though both the urdmordar and the soliphages are different implementations of that idea. Though I do think that in a fair fight, the urdmordar would utterly crush the soliphages.

And it may not be obvious, but GHOST EXILE has its own version of a spider monster.

I suspect the Red Huntress is what a creature like Shelob the Great would be in human form. 🙂 This quote about Shelob from THE TWO TOWERS always makes me think of Kalgri:

“Little she knew of or cared for towers, or rings, or anything devised by mind or hand, who only desired death for all others, mind and body, and for herself a glut of life, alone, swollen till the mountains could no longer hold her up and the darkness could not contain her.”

Of course, since Kalgri was human, she did need to care about towers or rings from time to time, but only service to her greater goal of death for all others.
