Microsoft Ebook Store?
Apparently Microsoft is planning to add an ebook store to the next big update of Windows 10.
Adding an ebook store to Windows might sound silly, but Apple and Google both have ebook stores, so why not Microsoft? Google Play is my biggest market after Amazon.
I wonder if Microsoft would open its platform to self-published writers. One would hope so! A couple years ago Microsoft was making noises about buying the Nook platform from Barnes & Noble, so maybe they’ll do something like that.
Though that would lead to the highly amusing prospect of selling my Ubuntu book on Windows 10! 🙂

How good of an ebook reader are they providing? Also what about your ebook library. I can personally attest that it becomes unwieldy when you pass 3,000 books and gets complicated at 4,000+.
That is a good question. I think we will find out when Windows 10 Creators Update comes out, though I think I’ll let other people beta-test it. 🙂
My big questions are DRM and how long will they keep their servers up? Didn’t they have another online store (music?) that they closed and left people without their purchases?
Yeah – that was a long time ago, but people were so ticked that it’s still the #1 comment in articles about a potential Windows 10 ebookstore. Hopefully Microsoft learned from its errors.
Just saw this post today. Win10 already has a store built in, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for them to add. It’s how they implement it that is of interest to me.
If they do what they did with Groove when I was trying that out I won’t touch their ebook store. To listen to any music I purchased on Groove I needed a subscription for each device I wanted to use the app on. At $10/mth per device…no thanks.
Yeah. MS has a bad history when it comes to DRM.
