a free copy of THE SECRET KINGS
Writer Brian Niemeier asked me to mention that his Dragon award-nominated book THE SECRET KINGS is free today through 8/25 through 8/29 at Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon Australia, and Amazon Canada.
I haven’t read it yet, but I read the first book in the series and Mr. Niemeier’s novella THE HYMN OF THE PEARL and thought they were pretty good, so get THE SECRET KINGS while it’s free!

I tried to look for Brian Niemeier book but I assume he is not publishing on Kobo. I’ll keep looking though may be worth a try now I am totally up to date with all of your books and waiting for the next installments from ghosts, seven fold sword and cloak games.
I think he’s only on Amazon, unfortunately.
And I’m almost done with SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER – I think I’ll be ready to start publishing it in one week if all goes well!
Hey, Malcolm. Thanks for your interest. My eBooks are exclusive to KDP. Amazon requires exclusivity to do free giveaways. Go ahead and send me an email at soulcyclebooks@gmail.com, and I’ll send you a free copy of SK.

So…marketing question. Does making book 3 free really bring in sales? I’d pick up your series if book 1 was free, and I’d buy 2 and 3 if I liked book 1. Whereas if I already owned book 1 and 2 and liked them, I’d buy book 3 without the free giveaway. Why make the third book in a series free?
I don’t feel especially motivated to try your series because the ending of an award winning series happens to be free. Of course, I’m weird, and for all I know normal people buy 1 and 2 to get 3 for free…
I think it was because the Dragon Convention awards are this weekend. From what I understand it’s common for selfpubbed writers to give away their nominated books for free right after the nomination and right before the vote.
But from a practical marketing standpoint, giving away anything other than the 1st book for free doesn’t work. I actually tried that a couple of years when I made GHOST IN THE FORGE (#6) permafree. It didn’t really work – most of the people who picked it up didn’t read the first five books and were confused and annoyed by #6. So I chalked it up to experience, undid the permafree, and moved on.
