Author Earnings Report
Author Earnings put out a new report this week on the state of the book industry. It’s really interesting and definitely worth the read.
What I especially like is that of the top 1000 bestselling authors on Amazon, something like 28 percent of them are indie writers.
I think the lesson is clear, especially for new writers. If you’re a new writer, don’t waste your time trying to find a publisher or agent. (A few weeks ago I saw many young writers making it their New Year’s Resolution to submit to agents more, which is an enormous waste of time.) Rather, if you’re serious, self-publish your books and learn to market them yourself. You’ll be happier, have more freedom, and (probably) will make more money than if you were with a traditional publisher.
Like, my post from yesterday, where I changed the title of SILENT ORDER: MASTER HAND three weeks before it comes out? Can’t do that if you’re traditionally published!
