CLOAK GAMES: SKY HAMMER progress

Made good progress on CLOAK GAMES: SKY HAMMER and SEVENFOLD SWORD: UNITY this weekend.

I can’t post any excerpts from SKY HAMMER because the entire book is a giant spoiler… but an excerpt from CLOAK GAMES: SHADOW JUMP might give a suitable preview. 🙂

“Good God, woman,” he said. “Seriously? You have no idea, do you?”

“Idea of what?”

“Just how dangerous you are,” he said. “I have never, ever met a human wizard who could cast a Cloak spell. You Mask yourself so effectively it’s like you’re some kind of damned shapeshifter. You can open rift ways, and I’ve never met a human wizard who could do that, either. You can do all this, and you’re what…eighteen?”

“Twenty,” I said.

“Twenty,” he said. “You’re a kid. I know you don’t think so, but you are. What will you be like in twenty years if you’re still alive? If you practice your magic that entire time, I can’t even imagine what kind of unholy terror of a wizard you’ll become. God! I don’t even want to think about it.”

  • I guess the real question was what would she be like in 140 years of non-stop practice. The answer is unstable and scary but really fun to read about.

Lucky for Boccand, he doesn’t know what an Eternity Crucible is. 🙂

  • I have a feeling May will run like a reverse Eternity Crucible as we wait for Hammersttike! It has been a long time since I have so anticipated/dreaded the release of a book this much.

Oddly, time will work in the opposite direction for me in May. 🙂

  • The Eternity Crucible is a fantastic plot line. I never saw anything like that coming and Nadia’s character has grown so much as a consequence plus it gives a lore friendly reason for Nadia to receive a huge power spike.

It was grim reading it and indeed watching Nadia suffer the after effects but it was a brilliant piece of writing and I loved it.

It is good people liked the Eternity Crucible – I wondered if that would kill off the series, but that hasn’t been the case.

      • The EC will make the series ever more popular – therefore, you should keep the series going for a very long time!!! 🙂

  • The Eternity Crucible really worked for me. The PTSD and how she handles it also with the time difference between her and everyone else made her a much more interesting character. I look at the books post EC as being almost a 2nd series. I recommended the series to my brother. He was losing interest in it and then Truth Chain came out and he kept on reading ever since.
